Construction Updates
The Kansas Turnpike currently has several construction projects underway.

Emporia: This project is scheduled for completion in the winter of 2008. It includes the realignment of Highway 50 and I-35 with the Turnpike. Motorists should watch for detours, construction workers and slow or stopped traffic as they enter or exit the Turnpike in Emporia.

Leavenworth County: 222nd Street (County Road 1) over the Turnpike in Leavenworth County is now closed for reconstruction. This is part of the project that includes the addition of the first Turnpike interchange in Leavenworth County. This project will affect travel on the Turnpike intermittently as temporary lane closures will be enacted for the safety of travelers and construction personnel. The insider shoulder will close permanently during construction.

Kansas River Bridges and Plaza Improvement Project: Westbound access to and from the West Lawrence interchange (Plaza 202) is currently closed. Eastbound access remains opens. Preparation work has also started for the westbound bridge. Travelers through this area should be aware of increased construction vehicles and personnel. For more information on the timeline for this project, view the web site www.spanningthefuture.com.

Asphalt Projects : In 2008, two asphalt projects are scheduled between mileposts 50 and 70.8 and between mileposts 210.7 and 217. These two projects will involve lane closures. In accordance with KTA policy, not more than 5 consecutive miles will be closed at one time and one lane of traffic each direction will be maintained at all times.
