Information about permits and commercial vehicles is available on-line from the Kansas Highway Patrol at www.kansashighwaypatrol.org. The phone number for central permits in Topeka, Kansas is (785) 296-2356. Alternatively, the Kansas Department of Motor Vehicles provides motor carrier references at http://www.ksrevenue.org/dmvmc.htm.
No, we do not renew or issue license plates. These questions should be directed toward your local county courthouse or department of motor vehicles. K-TAGs can be purchased at any attended toll plaza exit lane.
You can also apply online to open a K-TAG account. If you'd rather print an application to mail or fax it to KTA, download the commercial or individual account application as a PDF. Your tags will be mailed to you as soon as your application is processed.
If you want to add a tag to an existing account, contact us or call at (316) 652-2650.
You can also purchase a K-TAG at AAA offices in Topeka, Wichita, Lawrence, Manhattan and Kansas City; at the Leavenworth County Annex in Tonganoxie; or at The Merc in Lawrence.
No. A Social Security Number is not required to use a K-TAG. Although it can be useful in identifying your account and assisting with any credit checks that may be necessary, providing an SSN is not a requirement. However, since the My K-TAG program is backed with a credit card and K-TAG Classic accounts are prepaid most K-TAG users will never need to provide this type of information. If the KTA extends credit to you, this and other information will be required to complete credit checks.
Mail it to us at the address on the application, fax it to us at 316-651-0864 or drop it off at any tollbooth. If you choose to use the K-TAG Classic program, please send $40 to start your account. If you choose the My K-TAG program, you need to include your payment card information on the application. Our mailing address is Kansas Turnpike Authority, PO Box 780007, Wichita KS 67278.
YES! You can sign up for automatic account replenishment for prepaid accounts and you must keep a payment card on file for if you select the purchase option.
We require an acknowledgement -- either through a signature on a printed form or by a field on the online application -- of the rules and guidelines of the K-TAG program before tags can be issued to a customer. For that reason, accounts cannot be opened over the phone unless a K-TAG has already been purchased at a retail or toll booth location. You may, however, apply online now.
Some late model vehicles are equipped with special windshield features that contain metal in the glass. These features prevent our K-TAG transponders from being read. If your vehicle is equipped with this feature and you experience tag performance problems, you may need to obtain an exterior mounted tag.
Some of the vehicles that we know have difficulties with windshield-mounted tags include Pontiac Transport, Oldsmobile Silhouette, and Chevy Lumina vans; Buick Rendezvous; and some Mercedes and BMWs.
Sticker tags must be mounted to glass windshields and therefore will not work on motorcycles.
K-TAG customers receive a discount on tolls as compared to cash customers. Vehicles with 2-4 axles save an average 15% and vehicles with 5-9 axles save an average 5% on every toll.
You can save even more by choosing the prepaid option. Prepaid customers are charged $1.00 per month per tag and receive an extra 10% discount as long as they maintain a prepaid balance in their account. (If you purchase a tag at a toll booth, the $15 purchase price is credited to your account after you register the tag.)
Customers who choose the purchase option buy the tag(s) for $15.00 each. Tolls are charged monthly to the payment card on file. Shipping & handling charges apply for tags purchased online. Customers that select the purchase option pay no monthly fees.
All customers can view statements online or via e-mail for free. Printed statements in the mail for all plans cost an additional $.50 per month.
Yes. All K-TAG customers, regardless of which style of tag they use, will pay approximately 15% less than a cash customer effective Oct. 1, 2009. K-TAG customers that select the prepaid option save an extra 10% on tolls.
Call or contact us to add a tag to your K-TAG account. Depending on the payment plan you use, your tag may involve new monthly fees or cost $15 per tag.
You can also purchase a new tag at any attended exit toll booth or retail partners and add it to your account by logging in to your account information.
Make checks payable to: KANSAS TURNPIKE AUTHORITY and mail to PO Box 780007, Wichita, KS 67278.
To change your account type, you will need to print and complete this Transfer Form. A $5 transfer fee will be charged for customers moving from the prepaid option to the purchase option. When you are finished, please mail the form to: Kansas Turnpike Authority, Attn: K-TAG PO Box 780007 Wichita, KS 67278-0007
Your K-TAG came with a Quick Start Guide to get you on the road quickly. If you can't find it, you can access some of the same information on our K-TAG User Guide page.
If you purchase a new car or replace your windshield, call the K-TAG Customer Service Center at (316) 652-2650 to deactivate your sticker tag. They will send you a new tag because your sticker tag will not work after you remove it from your windshield.
Depending on the payment plan you use, a replacement tag fee may be charged.
If you have an older soap bar style K-TAG, remember to remove it from the windshield for reinstallation.
Your online account information stores statements for up to one year. You can access that information for free, anytime of the day or night. If you need copies of statements older than one year, contact our K-TAG Customer Service Representatives at (316) 652-2650. There is a $1.50 per page fee for statements to be mailed or faxed.
You may terminate the K-TAG program anytime by calling or e-mailing the KTA. If you have an external or first-generation tag, you must return it to the KTA or you may be charged $34 per tag. Once the request to close your account is received by KTA, your K-TAG will no longer be valid. Any remaining account funds (after all applicable fees and charges have been applied) will be returned to you after the closing process is complete. If you replenish your account by a payment card, a refund will be issued to the card last used. If you replenish your account by cash or check, a refund check will be mailed to the address on file.
