How to Use Our Road

We want you to have an excellent trip on our road and we understand that the Kansas Turnpike may be different than toll roads you have used in other states. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Fares are based upon the length of your trip and the number of axles (class) on your vehicle. Use the toll calculator to figure your fare.
  • A single payment is collected (or added to your electronic account) when you exit the Turnpike.
  • If you have a compatible transponder, you can use the lanes marked “K-TAG only” and pay an electronic rate less than the cash toll rate.
  • If you do not have a compatible transponder, please use a lane marked "ticket / cash" on entry and “cash/self-pay” on exit. Our plazas accept both cash and card.
  • Self-pay machines, manned by remote attendants, are used to collect tolls at plazas with low volume of “cash” vehicles during some time periods instead of staffing.
  • Highway speed electronic lanes are available at our three mainline plazas - Eastern Terminal (MM 217), East Topeka (MM 183) and Southern Terminal (MM 17.) If using a K-TAG or compatible transponder, keep moving using the highway speed electronic lanes. If paying with cash or card, exit right to receive your ticket or pay your toll.
  • Exit 53A in east Wichita is a cashless toll plaza, where customers who typically use a tollbooth can pay online.
  • If you use an electronic lane without a compatible transponder, you will be charged at the toll violation rate for your vehicle’s class and mailed a toll violation statement. Information about the toll violation rate is on the toll page.

If you will be using the Turnpike several times, you may be interested in using the K-TAG electronic toll collection program.
